SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital and its professionals recognised in 2022

12 January 2023

A number of programmes, projects, initiatives and careers of professionals associated with SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital were recognised in 2022 by different organisations, competitions and congresses.

These awards were made possible thanks to the involvement and dedication of the professionals who work at the Hospital. Thank you all for making them possible.

Below, we highlight just some of these awards.

Institutional awards

SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital was honoured for its hospital excellence at the second edition of the Top Value IQVIA 2022 awards. These awards promote a new model of healthcare assessment based on the value of the care provided to patients as the main focus for organisations and for the healthcare system (Value Based Healthcare).

The Best Spanish Hospitals Awards (BSH), organised by Higia Benchmarketing and ASHO, with the collaboration of the Spanish Society of Health Care Executives (SEDISA), recognised the Hospital in the “High Technology Hospitals” category  within the “Best Mother-and-Child Hospitals” Division. The initiative recognises the work of the participating healthcare centres based on several key indicators for prevalent processes in Spanish hospitals.

Once again this year, the Hospital received the TOP 20 award for the Agrupación Sanitaria Sant Joan de Déu - Hospital Clínic in the large regional and national hospitals category.

La Casa de Sofia and the Únicas network, projects promoted by Sant Joan de Déu Hospital were recognised with a 2022 FEDER award given out by the Spanish Federation for Rare Diseases in recognition of innovative initiatives that contribute to ensuring equitable access to resources and involve the participation of affected patients. Queen Letizia presented the award to the Managing Director of SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, Manel del Castillo, and to one of the driving forces behind La Casa de Sofia, Jordi Cruz, during an event held in León (Spain).

La Casa de Sofia also received the AELMHU Award for the Best Healthcare Project on Minority Diseases, and the Spanish Association of Orphan and Ultra-Orphan Drug Laboratories, which awards this prize, also recognised Dr. Francesc Palau for the Best Professional Career in the field of rare diseases.

The Hospital also received the Award for Sustainability as a driver of integral health and well-being from the +10 Hospitals initiative for the Glasgow Health programme. This is an initiative that seeks to showcase the actions of hospitals and shine a light on proposals that bring about meaningful advances in meeting climate emergency targets.

Finally, the hospital was recognised as the ”Best Mission Hospital in Sierra Leone” and its “Sponsor a Treatment” programme also received the  AQ Awards for ESG Best Practices (Environmental, Social Governance), organised by AdQualis Human Results. This programme was created with the aim of obtaining funding to treat children at Saint John of God Catholic Hospital in Lunsar, a twinned centre of SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital. The goal is to ensure that no child is left untreated or turned away for lack of financial resources.

Professional careers

Many of the Hospital's staff members were recognised for their professional careers this year. Notable among them were: Dr. Lourdes Ibañez, recipient of the 2022 Laureate Award for International Excellence in Endocrinology; Dr. Susana Rives, recipient of the professional excellence award from the Barcelona Medical Association; and the Advanced Practice nurse, Carmen Yoldi, who received the award for the Thesis Project with the greatest clinical impact at the XXVI Conference on Care Research organised by Investén-isciii.

Award-winning services

Just like our professionals, numerous services and units also received awards in 2022. Whilst all of them are equally important, we would highlight the research team  at the BCNatal Fetal Medicine Research Center, led by Dr. Eduard Gratacós, which received an award at the World ISUOG Congress, one of the most important maternal-fetal medicine events in the world, and the Nephrology Service led by Dr. Álvaro Madrid, which was recognised by the Spanish Association of Paediatrics with two awards for best scientific communication.

Research and innovation

In 2022, La Marató de TV3 chose to provide funding for two paediatric mental health research projects led by the Hospital; the Blapp project was selected for the CaixaResearch Validate Awards, and the Instagram Stop TCA project was the winner of the 2022 E-nnova Awards, among others.
