SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital awarded five stars in the international Global Hospital Rating
It is the first hospital in Spain to have received this certification that assesses quality markers such as speed and punctuality, the patient experience, digitalisation and the attraction for employees.
SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital has received a five-star rating in the comprehensive international assessment of hospitals, the Global Hospital Rating. The company Statista and the magazine Newsweek are responsible for preparing this ranking that examines five quality markers: the medical care given, the speed and punctuality of care, the patient experience and safety, IT and digitalisation, and the attraction for employees.
Five fields of excellence in quality
The rating process is based on an exhaustive questionnaire that the hospitals taking part directly submit to Statista. The information sent undergoes an assessment and validation by the company’s team of experts. Once the process has been completed, the hospitals that meet the standards receive a rating that ranges from one to five stars.
The questionnaire covers a wide range of information to be filled in
Provision of medical care: five stars
It also examines the general cover of paediatric specialties, such as the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, the Neonatology Department, the medical protocols in place and the implementation of quality management systems.
Speed and punctuality: five stars
It assesses the management of speed and punctuality in the surgical procedures performed and their follow-up, appointments with specialists and the systems for monitoring waiting times in the Pediatric Emergency Department.
The patient experience and safety: five stars
Systems for flagging up patient safety incidents are examined, as are the roll-out of the appropriate measures, the safety measures already in place and hygiene, amongst others.
Insofar as the patient experience is concerned, an appraisal is made of the systems for recording patient satisfaction, the perception of quality of life by patients who suffer from certain illnesses, and the information made available to patients and their families.
Information technologies and digitalisation: four stars
An assessment is made of patients’ online access to their medical and nursing teams, the services available, and their access to their medical records and test results.
The attraction for employees: five stars
The ability of hospitals to attract and retain talented staff is currently key to ensuring sustained excellence in medical care at all levels. Under this point, data is collected about the training programmes and support given to the staff who work at the Hospital, gender equality and a number of operational aspects related to employment conditions.
SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital has repeatedly undergone external quality evaluations in Spain and has received numerous acknowledgments for its excellence in the medical treatment, care, well-being and experience of patients and their families. This international assessment, one of the few in place, endorses the excellence of the daily work done by the Hospital’s staff, who focus on the ongoing improvement of the quality of their work and on the care of patients and their families.
