I strongly believe in humanising medicine and healthcare provision in a comprehensive way that puts the patients and their needs first. One of my favourite sayings that really sums up how I feel about what I do is ‘no hay derrota en el corazón de quien lucha’ [There is no defeat when there is still something worth fighting for].

Since the beginning of my career as a pediatrician, my education has been mainly in the field of pediatric nephrology, with particular emphasis on tubulopathies and kidney lithiasis, with Dr Victor García Nieto as my mentor at the University Hospital of the Nuestra Señora de Candelaria. I completed my training in kidney transplantation and pediatric dialysis at the La Paz University Hospital in Madrid, the Virgen del Rocío University Hospital in Seville, and the Son Espases University Hospital in Mallorca. I then completed my Master's in Pediatric Nephrology at the University of Barcelona (2018-2020) and obtained European Accreditation in the specialism in 2020. In 2017, I developed the first national-scale Integrated Functional Unit (IFU) in Pediatric Nephro-Oncology, currently associated with the Pediatric Cancer Center Barcelona. In the Nephrology Department, we are members of the various European reference networks for rare diseases (ERKNet) and Pediatric Kidney Transplant (TransplantChild), as well as key regional (XUEC) and national (CSUR) reference figures in the field of kidney transplant.

I have published 48 original articles (regional, national and international) and I have authored 12 chapters (nine national and three international) in books on the specialism, generally on rare kidney diseases. I have given around 85 presentations at various conferences, mainly in the field of research, and have received 19 regional and national-scale prizes. Currently, I am a member of the RenalTube group, and the Spanish Association of Pediatric Nephrology (AENP), the Spanish Society of Nephrology (SEN), the Catalan Society of Nephrology (SOCANE), the European Society for Paediatric Nephrology (ESPN) and the International Pediatric Nephrology Association (IPNA). Subdirector of the magazine ‘Anales de Nefrología Pediátrica’ [Annals of Pediatric Nephrology] since 2018. Reviewer of several magazines on pediatrics and pediatric nephrology on both a national and international scale.
