Musculoskeletal tumours, also called sarcomas, are developmental bone and soft-tissue tumours.
Treatment
At SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, we have prepared the first joint treatment protocol for children and adults with Ewing's sarcoma in Spain.
We have developed techniques to reconstruct the affected limb, with the patient's own bone material or that of a donor, to avoid amputation.
Results
Our patients with Ewing's sarcoma have an 84% cure rate. Our figures are comparable to the best outcomes reported in the world, from the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC)
Research
We have developed animal models from primary tumours in patients to test new drugs. We have also developed new combinations of drugs against Ewing's sarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma.
