In the Pediatrics Odontology Department at the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, we treat children from birth right up until they are 18 years old.

We think good pediatric dental care contributes to the healthy development of children and adolescents, as well as ensuring a good quality of life once they reach adulthood. To achieve this, prevention and personalised treatment plans for each patient are essential.

Public and private coverage

At the SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital, we believe that good pediatric dental health contributes to the healthy development of children and adolescents, as well as ensuring a good quality of life once they reach adulthood. That is why we offer dentistry and orthodontic services to compliment the health needs covered by the public health system.

Private dental care is offered to children up to the age of 18 with no underlying disease from anywhere in the world.

Public dental services are offered in the following cases:

• Children with a physical and/or mental condition, from birth until the age of 18.
• Children under four years old with polycaries and no underlying disease.
• Oral surgery on children up to 14 years old from the catchment area.

Dentistry

We help prevent, diagnose and correct oral and dental diseases in children and adolescents.

Orthodontics

At the SJD Barcelona Children’s Hospital, we have over 40 years of experience providing orthodontic treatments. We employ various techniques to achieve the best result and to ensure the children we treat are as comfortable as they can be: conventional fixed orthodontics, fixed orthodontics with esthetic brackets, transparent aligners  and lingual orthodontics.

Teeth alignment

Early detection of malocclusion is essential to achieving quick and simple correction.  

In the Pediatric Dentistry Department at the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, we offer effective solutions, personalised treatments and cutting-edge technology to align the teeth of children and adolescents, resolve skeletal abnormalities, and reestablish the morphological and functional balance of the face and mouth.

Treatment of congenital malformations

We boast a craniofacial unit in which we carry out multidisciplinary treatments of congenital malformations such as a cleft lip and palate, and faciocraniostenosis.

For more than 30 years, we have been following an early intervention protocol for patients with congenital malformations, with the aim of minimising esthetic and functional abnormalities in the child, all in a comfortable, familiar environment.

These services are not covered by the public health system.

The main lines of investigation within the Pediatric Dentistry and Orthodontics Department are as follows:

• The study of patients with craniofacial malformations and facial fissures.
• The study of Class III skeletal growth and treatments.
• The study of obstructive sleep apnea hypopnea syndrome (OSAHS) in orthodontic patients.
• 3D planning in orthodontic surgery.
• The study of oncology patients.
• The study of dental abnormalities in patients with various rare diseases.

Our research is carried out at the SJD Research Institute (IRSJD).
