Maria Rimblas Roure

I am a pediatrician at the Palliative Care and Chronic Complex Patients Department at SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital. Throughout my career, I have worked on ward pediatrics and neuro-pediatrics, with specific experience in treating children with Down's syndrome as the head of a specialised medical service for more than 10 years. I have made contributions to working groups for Sociedad Española de Urgencias de Pediatría and I have combined healthcare and teaching. As an adjunct lecturer at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (2012–2022) I taught the subjects of pediatrics and bioethics.

Putting across what I have learnt from my patients and colleagues has always seemed necessary and rewarding. Over the years, I have enjoyed and have learnt a great deal from caring for the most vulnerable patients and their families, for which I have focused my work on improving their quality of life. It thrills me to be able to play a part in this “culture of care”, because all patients who need it will be followed up and given specialised support. I believe in multidisciplinary work and teamwork.

Research work

• Principal investigator with the Hospital del Mar Research Institute (IMIM), on the Pediatric Exploratory Research Study of EGCG Use and Safety (PERSESUS ), 2018–2021.
• Principal investigator on the research work for RISK 21: epidemiological study to determine Down’s syndrome as a hospital admission risk factor due to the respiratory syncytial virus – comparative study of neonatal cohorts.
• Contributions to the Global Pediatric Emergency Poisoning Surveillance System research project, 2012–2013.
