SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital is a non-profit institution that aims at providing care for the entire population, either through the Catalan Health Service or through other insurers.
Our relationship with CatSalut
Since its inception in 1867, SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital has been a private, non-profit institution that is dedicated to public service. One of its major milestones came in 1973, when it made the transition to a centre with the support of the government.
In 1991, the Generalitat de Catalunya (local government of Catalonia) established the Catalan Health Service (CatSalut), an entity that "ensures comprehensive and high-quality public health coverage for all citizens of Catalonia", as "public insurer", and which offers a number of specific services.
As a private centre, SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital provides healthcare services in cooperation with CatSalut. For some specialties, the hospital is the only centre in its geographic area with appropriate facilities.
