An SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital researcher receives one of the most important awards of the world pediatric oncology
It is the first time that an investigator who carries out his work entirely in Spain receives the Odile Schweisguth prize
The SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital researcher Guillem Pascual Pastó has been awarded by one of the most prestigious prizes in the field of paediatric oncology worldwide: the Odile Schweisguth prize. This is delivered by the Société Internationale d'Oncologie Pédiatrique (SIOP) every year to the best researcher in training in the field of childhood cancer.
It is the first time that a research project carried out entirely in Spain receives this distinction, which in the past fell to figures that today are very prominent in the field of global research on childhood cancer. This is the case of Richard Gilbertson, of the Cambridge Cancer Center; Michael Taylor, of the Hospital for Sick Children of Toronto; François Doz, from the Curie Institute, or Jaume Mora, current Scientific Director of the Oncology and Haematology area at the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, who was awarded in 2001 for his work at the Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York.
Guillem Pascual Pastó has obtained this prestigious award for research conducted by Ángel Montero Carcaboso on retinoblastoma, the most frequent ocular cancer in children and which accounts for 11% of cancers diagnosed in children under one year of age.
