In the next six months, 12 professionals of Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona and 32 of Hospital Clínic will travel to Greece to provide assistance, in consecutive shifts of four weeks, to the refugee population in that country. These doctors and nurses will be integrated in one of the NGO most established in the territory, Woman and Health Alliance (WAHA), and will cover the basic health needs of more than 12,000 people, most of them are children. In the project collaborates the Department of Health, the Department of Affairs and Institutional Relations and the Department of External Relations and Transparency, through the Agència Catalana de Cooperación al Desarrollo.
The first shipment of volunteers fled early in August toward some of the five camps where WAHA has a large deployment: those in the Port of Thessaloniki, Giannitsá, Derveni, Diavata and Vassiliki. It is also scheduled to perform in other camps of the islands of Lesbos and Khios.
The professionals of the Hospital Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona will carry out health and hygiene preventive actions to avoid infections and epidemics; will treat children with chronic pathologies like diabetes, asthma or heart disease and with childhood illnesses such as chicken pox or measles, and will also offer attention in the field of vaccines and the dental health.
The women are offered care during pregnancy and also in other areas such as contraceptive measures, genito-urinary infections and sexually transmitted infections.
The entire population that requires it will receive psychological care to the traumatic experience.

Among all have a total estimated population of 57,000, 38% are children. Half are from Syria, a quarter came from Afghanistan, and there are also other countries such as Iraq.
