The Diabetes unit at SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital is the first in Spain to have been accredited by the SWEET programme.
The SWEET programme, which stands for Better control in Pediatric and Adolescent DiabeteS: Working to crEate cEnTers of reference, first emerged as a project financed by the European Union to establish networks of diabetes centres. These centres ensure access and quality care for children and adolescents with diabetes in compliance with quality standards set out in international clinical guidelines. Today, this international partnership of reference centres is supported by the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD) and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF).
The Diabetes unit at SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital is the first in Spain to have been accredited by the SWEET programme. Through regular and comparative analysis with other paediatric centres of reference within the partnership, as well as regular audits carried out by NHS England's National Peer Review Programme accreditation group, the partnership recognises a multidisciplinary team capable of providing proven quality care in paediatric diabetes.
