The Centre for Innovation in Childhood Diabetes (CIDI) is one of the first centres in Europe that is dedicated to tackling type 1 diabetes mellitus through a multi-point approach.
We find that this type of diabetes requires three main focuses:
- We promote lines of research aimed at bringing about significant change in the disease.
- We work to improve the care our patients and their families receive.
- We encourage and support activities to raise awareness of childhood diabetes.
The CIDI was founded by and for affected families, and the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital has helped to promote and develop it alongside the SJD Research Foundation. The project is also supported by the 'la Caixa' Foundation.
A very high-profile part of the project is the website Type 1 Diabetes Guide, a platform about type 1 diabetes mellitus in children that features expert advice, parent experiences, recipes, a food portioning table with over 400 food items, a carb calculator and many other resources to help manage childhood diabetes.
